Bajaj has officially launched it’s much awaited 220 cc Pulsar DTS-Fi in New Delhi. The Pulsar 220 was one of the most awaited launches of 2007 and it’s finally here. Biking enthusiasts can rejoice as the new Pulsar promises to be a real thriller especially since most of us are used to riding puny commuter bikes yet. Infact in my opinion this is the only performance bike to be made in India since the Yamaha RD350.
The Pulsar 220 DTSFi is similar with other Pulsars on account of having a single cylinder engine that runs twin valves but there is programmed fuel injection in this one which make the engine produce a heady 20 bhp and 1.95 kgm of torque. Fuel injection also allows the 220 DTS-Fi to get a linear power curve and instant throttle response. The engine is also oil cooled. The 20 bhp of power is expected to propel the bike to a top whack of 135 kmph while delivering about 35-40 kmpl. Other big draws of the new Pulsar are tubeless tyres, 55-watt projector low beam headlamp, slick digital dash with LCD display and distinctive LED taillamps.
This level of performance and equipment could easily have you thinking that the new Pulsar would cost a bomb, well that’s where Bajaj has surprised us all and priced the 220 DTS-Fi at Rs. 81,280 (ex-showroom Delhi). Bajaj hopes to sell 2,000 units of the Pulsar 220 DTS Fi a month. To give it’s brand a more upmarket image Bajaj has opened Bajaj Probiking Stores in Pune, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Navi Mumbai and New Delhi.
